A brief review of the 2024 Forum for Directors of (re)insurance

On 25 January 2024, ILA had the pleasure of welcoming insurance professionals who shared their expertise and insights with the governance community.

Christian Straßer, Chairman of the ACA, interviewed by David Arendt, outlined the development of the key figures of life, non-life, and reinsurance in the national and international context and exchanged views with the audience on opportunities and challenges.

The legal experts Benjamin Accadia, Emmanuelle Mousel, Pierre Michaël De Waersegger, and Marie-Sophie Dervieu then summarized the current insurance governance hot topics including the role of the BoD, retail investment strategy, outsourcing, AML, ESG, and tax aspects (Pillar II implementation, Transfer pricing, CRS notifications, ESG tax credit).

The following CEO panel consisting of Lize-Mari Barnes, Karine Verbruggen, and Christian Rola discussed the impact of uncertain environments on strategy, the progressive implementation of AI in insurance business models, the social responsibility of the industry, and the challenges with regard to talent attraction.

Pierre Nemeth, CEO & Co-Founder of Sopiad, winner of the ACA Luxembourg Insurance Innovation Award 2023, shared with Najia BELBAL and the participants his Fintech solution for insurers.

Sandrine Chabrerie and Jean Elia exchanged views with Isabelle Delas on investment trends, the obstacles in the areas of ESG product distribution, and customer expectations. They laid out potential solutions, the necessity of the involvement of all stakeholders in raising awareness, and the potential strategies to adopt.

Aude Lemogne, Fernand Grulms, and Yves Wagner composed the Board Panel moderated by Virginie Lagrange, Chair of ILA. They discussed how to manage business and growth in and from Luxembourg, the industry challenges in a tougher reinsurance market, and how to keep up with the pace of regulation. The quote of the day was provided by Yves Wagner: "Directors need training and boards need to be diversified including ESG and IT specialists."

The program was led and concluded by Brice Bultot, Co-Chair of the ILA Insurance Working Committee.

Before networking with their peers, the participants had the opportunity to listen to and exchange with Thierry Flamand, President of the Executive Committee chez Commissariat aux Assurances (CAA), on the CAA priorities.

We would like to thank the moderators, panelists, and our members present for this interesting and interactive session!
