Become an ILA Certified Director
The ILA Certification for Experienced Directors is composed of 2 modules:
The Essential Luxembourg: ILA’s flagship programme that empowers Directors with the essential and in-depth knowledge to excel in their roles in Luxembourg.
Through this programme, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of the responsibilities, expectations, and best practices that define effective directorship in Luxembourg.
The Essentials Universal, offered by one of the official ILA partners: this module explores the core responsibilities of directors across all legal and regulatory environments.
It covers essential topics such as reviewing and approving growth strategies, understanding governance principles and director duties, mastering key skills and foundational knowledge, enhancing board effectiveness, analysing financial information, and evaluating strategic plans, among other fundamental competencies.

APPLICATION TO BECOME AN ILA CERTIFIED DIRECTOR
After successfully completing both modules (The Essentials Luxembourg and The Essentials Universal) and acquiring a minimum of four years of experience as a Board member of one or more entities performing significant economic activities(*), you will qualify to become an ILA Certified Director. The final step will be to submit the necessary documents to finalise your application.
(*) Your experience will be validated by the ILA Executive Committee and reported to the Education and Certification Committee (delegation of the ILA Board of Directors). Please, note that executive management experience is not recognised. At this stage, only a minimum of four years of experience as a board member is recognised.
After certification, you must complete Continuous Professional Development (CPDs), including the attendance to the ecoDa European Board Diploma, to maintain your qualification.

About Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
As an ILA Certified Director, you possess the expected abilities, integrity and professionalism to serve as a director. However, the business environment is constantly evolving, and continuous development is essential to ensure credibility for you and the profession at every stage of your career.
When you reach the level of ILA Certified Director, you will be required to undertake Continuing Professional Development. ILA will support you in fulfilling your CPD obligations by offering a range of different training courses.
Our aim is to maintain the highest standards of competence among our Certified Directors and to ensure that they remain effective as Board members.

Undertake at least 12 hours of professional development (CPDs) per calendar year

Within 5 years of receiving certification, Certified Directors must complete the ecoDa module on professional development for European directors
