Topic 6: The Economic Emergency and the Board Response strategy
Dr Ravi FERNANDO is an Alumni of the University of Cambridge having completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Business in 2008 and a Master of Studies in Sustainability Leadership in 2014. He holds a Doctor of Business Administration Degree from the European Business School in Switzerland 2016. At the INSEAD Business School (France) he completed both a Diploma in International Management and the Advanced Management Program. He was an Executive in Residence at INSEAD from 2010 to 2019. In 2018, he created the ‘ILA Future Directors’ program for the Institute of Directors of Luxembourg as its Core Faculty resource, which set the foundation for the INSEAD Aspiring Director Program in 2019 as a Visiting Lecturer.
In 2010 he received a US Copyright for his work at Cambridge University for the concept of ‘Strategic Corporate Sustainability’©. In November 2015, he published ‘Strategic Corporate Sustainability – 7 Imperatives for Sustainable business’ (Partridge), based on his work at Cambridge University. In April 2020, he created the ‘21st Century Board Leadership Model’© for another US Copyright.
He is the Chairman/CEO of Global Strategic Corporate Sustainability Pvt.Ltd, which operates in Europe, Vietnam and Sri Lanka. His career with Multi-nationals spanned 1981-2007 with Unilever, Smithkline Beecham International covering Africa, Middle East and Asia in CEO/Business Development positions. He was the first CEO of the Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology 2008-2011 & Operations Director of the Malaysia Blue Ocean Strategy Institute 2011-2016. He was the UN Global Compact Focal point 2007-2011 and serves on the Board. He also serves on the Boards of MNC’s LOLC, Aitken Spence Plantations, Habitat for Humanity and Ceylon Asset Management.
In September 2007 he won “Global Strategy Leadership award”, presented to him by Professor Renee Mauborgne of INSEAD at the World Strategy summit in Mumbai. In February 2020, he won the ‘World CSR Leadership award’.

Marcus Müller is a full-time professor in the Department of Management at Sacred Heart University (SHU). He received a MSc in Electrical Engineering from Saarbrücken University, a Diploma in Business Administration from Manchester Business School, an MBA from Melbourne Business School, and a PhD in Organizational Psychology from the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia.
Prior to his full-time appointment at SHU, he worked for 16 years in the finance industry in fields such as strategy, mergers and acquisitions, principal investments, and private equity for Arthur Andersen, Deutsche Bank and Merrill Lynch in Frankfurt, Geneva, London, Chicago and New York.
At SHU Luxembourg, Marcus coordinates the integration between SHU’s curriculum and Luxembourg industry. He teaches courses in leadership, organizational behaviour, negotiations, and management in Luxembourg as well as Fairfield. His research interests include leadership, motivation, engagement and performance in organizations. Marcus’ scientific work has a particular focus on the psychology of senior executives.
Since joining SHU Luxembourg in 2013, Marcus has gained on-the-ground, professional experience in working with Luxembourg-based senior executives as well as companies, start-ups and NGOs including Luxair, Luxairport, Luxaviation, Luxinnovation, Brasserie Nationale, Telindus/Proximus, Champ, SciPharm, Motion-S, Airbox Lab, ADA microfinance, Handicap International and the Red Cross.
