ILA Coffee Chat - Organisational Culture & Strategy from a Board perspective

As a Director, would you not like to be able to manage an organisation’s culture just like one manages its balance sheet ?

“Culture eats strategy for breakfast” and ”You cannot manage what you can’t measure” are famous quotes from legendary management consultant and writer Peter Drucker.  Whereas many Directors will agree with these statements, the challenge is that culture is often considered to be a ‘fluffy’ topic.   So the question becomes: ‘How does one actually manage an organisation’s culture so that it effectively supports the execution of its strategy?'

Understanding the culture of your organisation without the help of an objective tool can feel like an overwhelming endeavour. Everyone will have their own opinion on the culture, but that opinion will always be subjective.

During this Coffee Chat, Marc will reply to questions of Katia to support our understanding on how the Non-Executive Directors should tackle this subject  and will introduce the following concepts  :
• Objective measurement of an organization’s culture expressed in precise numbers on six dimensions of culture
• The definition of the optimal culture that supports the organization’s strategy
• A gap analysis
• The identification of ‘levels of change’ to close the gap between the actual and optimal cultures.
