    • Biography

    Bernard Mommens is Secretary General and Member of the Management Board of Banque Internationale à Luxembourg (BIL) S.A., Luxembourg’s oldest private bank. He is member of several board of directors of BIL Group companies and entities.

    Bernard is a lawyer and graduated at Leuven University (Belgium) in 1983. Since 2014, Ben Mommens is also Guberna certified independent director and, at inception, served as co-chair of the ILA Banking Commission.

    Before joining BIL, Bernard headed since 1990 the Legal Department of Paribas Bank Belgium, where he started his career in 1984. From 1991 to 1997 (when Paribas Belgium left Paribas Group) Bernard was an executive member of the International Committee of Legal Affairs at Paribas Group.

    Between 2000 and 2007, Bernard headed the Private Banking business line for Dexia Bank Belgium with assets above 20 EUR billions.

    Bernard speaks fluently English, French, German and Dutch and learns actively the Luxembourgish language.
