Biography

Jeannot Krecké, 68, is currently an independent board director in various companies.

He started his university studies at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) in Belgium in 1969, from where he obtained a degree in physical and sports education.

He decided in 1983 to change professional direction. His interests led him to retrain in economics, accounting, corporate governance and taxation. He enrolled in various courses, in particular at Harvard University and INSEAD.

In parallel he started a new career in politics and after 15 years in Parliament, he was appointed Luxembourg’s Minister of the Economy and Foreign Trade in July 2004. After the next elections of 2009, he retained the portfolio of Minister of the Economy and Foreign Trade.

As of July 2004, he represented the Luxembourg Government at the Council of Ministers of the European Union in the internal market and competitiveness configuration and on the Economic and Financial Affairs Council. He was also a member of the Eurogroup from 2004 to 2009.

As a Minister, he was closely involved in 2005 in the Merger of Arcelor and Mittal.

Under his guidance, he managed, in 2008, to merge all major energy companies of Luxembourg, including companies of the neighbouring German region. In 2008, together with the Minister of Finance, he was in charge of handling the deep financial crisis and more precisely to save Dexia BIL and Fortis BGL, two systemic banks for Luxembourg.

On February 1st. 2012 he retired from government and decided to end his active political career in order to pursue a range of different economical projects in the private sector.

Mr. Krecké is currently the CEO of Key International Strategy Services. He currently serves as a member of the boards of directors of: JSFC Sistema, East West United Bank, Calzedonia Finanziara S.A., Jan De Nul Sofidra S.A. and Novenergia Holding Company S.A.

From 2013 to 2018 he was on the board of China Construction Bank, Europe.

Jeannot Krecké authored several books on personal taxation in Luxembourg as well as a book on the control functions of the Luxembourg Parliament. He also issued a report on tax fraud in 1997.

His expertise further earned him external consulting roles with consulting firms Mazars (1994-1999), Arthur Andersen (1999-2003) and Ernst & Young (2003-2004) and Genii Capital (2012 – 2015).
