Eligibility and Competencies
Applicants for the ILA Board are reminded of Article 20, paragraph 3 of the Articles of Association of ILA:
"To be eligible, candidates must have been either an Individual Member or an Affiliate of a Corporate Member of ILA for at least twelve months at the moment the convening notice for the general meeting is sent to the Members."
Additional eligibility conditions include:
- Candidates must be up to date with their membership fees.
- Candidates must not be subject to suspension or exclusion.
- Affiliates of Corporate Members must not be subject to suspension or banning.
The selection process is overseen by the Nomination & Recruitment Committee (NRC). The NRC evaluates applications based on the information provided by the candidates, with a focus on specific competencies that complement the existing skills on the Board. Based on the eligibility criteria and the review of skills, the NRC makes recommendations to the Board. However, for clarity:
- All applicants, whether recommended by the NRC or not, will be presented to the Board for a final decision.
- All candidates will be informed of the Board’s decision prior to the Annual General Meeting.
To ensure a balance between Individual Members and Corporate Representatives, we particularly encourage applications from Directors who are members of ILA in an individual capacity. Candidates are encouraged to actively promote their candidacy for a position on the ILA Board through various channels, such as social media and networking with other ILA members. Additionally, candidates should seek support and votes from both individual and corporate members.
Should you wish to receive recommendations and practical guidance on how to optimise your personal impact in the election process, do not hesitate to reach out to ILA at [email protected].
The Board conducts regular self-assessments, which include a summary of the individual competencies of its members. This process provides an overview of the collective skills and expertise represented across the Board. Following last year’s assessment, and to further enhance the diversity of complementary skills and knowledge within the Board, we particularly encourage applications from individuals with expertise in the field of
- Cybersecurity & Data protection,
- AI, Blockchain, Emerging technologies,
- Startups & Fintechs,
- SMEs, and Family-owned businesses.
The NRC will prioritise recommending candidates who can demonstrate relevant experience and/or expertise in these areas.
To ensure an objective review of application files, candidates are kindly requested to complete a self-assessment questionnaire this year. Candidates will receive a link to complete the self-assessment after submitting their application. This will help the NRC and Board gain a clearer understanding of each applicant's individual strengths and profile.
