SCHWEIGER Michael
Michael Schweiger is the Chief Compliance Officer, Payments, EEA at Airbnb and leads compliance programs and regulatory engagement strategy throughout the region. Prior to that, he served as CCO of Amazon Payments Europe and was also a partner at Loyens & Loeff where he built and led the financial regulatory practice. Michael's career includes over a decade at Royal Bank of Canada’s European subsidiary in Luxembourg (supervised directly by the European Central Bank) where he was a member of the Executive Committee with responsibility for legal and corporate governance.
In 2021, Michael was elected as an Associate of the Chartered Governance Institute UK & Ireland and is a Chartered Secretary. He served as secretary to multiple group companies and as a director of a pension fund at RBC and is currently a director of Airbnb's Canadian payments entity. His skills are frequently sought by corporations and public institutions, where he provides insights on board liability, the role of the chair, and corporate governance regulation. A frequent speaker on board effectiveness, he regularly facilitates sessions on board dynamics and governance best practices within director certification programmes and advisory missions internationally.
